At first glance the roofing industry can seem overwhelming. With all of the different types of shingles, warranties and other options this can get confusing. Learning the roofing process and what goes into it may help build a solid foundation to learn and understand everything else. There are many steps to the roofing process that many people are not aware of. Continue reading below to learn all about it!
1. The first step to the job is to make sure the entire property is
completely protected while the roof replacement
is underway. This includes the homes siding, plants, bushes, decks etc. We use a combination of tarps and plywood when necessary to assure complete and
thorough home protection.
2. The next step is the removal and immediate clean up of the old roofing
materials.
3. Once the roofing has been removed the roof sheathing/decking is thoroughly
inspected. Any soft or wet wood needs to be replaced to provide an adequate base for your
new roof. The sheathing is inspected and re-nailed if necessary to ensure the existing
roof decking is adequately secured.
4. Following the roof deck inspection we prepare the roof surface for the new
roofing material. Ice and water shield is installed at the bottom of the roof and in all of the
valleys. We also install ice and water shield around all of the roof penetrations
including chimneys, pipe flanges, roof connections, etc. Once the ice and water is installed we install a synthetic underlayment over
the entire roof in place of what would traditionally be roofing felt
"tar" paper.
5. The roof is now ready for the new roofing materials to be installed. We now start laying the new roofing materials working from the bottom to the
top, followed by counter step flashing, pipe flanges, ridge vents, and ridge cap installation.
6. Upon completion of each roofing project we perform a post-roofing inspection. We pride ourselves in perfection and want to make sure everything was done
correctly and the customer is completely satisfied.
